• Diagnosing a compressor tripping the breaker, off Mile Branch Road, Spartanburg, SC. A system off Mile Branch Road wasn't cooling. Gauges showed the compressor pulling locked rotor amperage, which was tripping the breaker. We're now checking on compressor warranty coverage and parts availability before laying out repair options. A portable AC is being arranged for the home in the meantime so there's cooling while that gets sorted.
• Frozen AC traced to a failed TXV, off Sylvan Drive, Spartanburg, SC. Called out to a system that had iced over completely. Once we let it thaw and checked it out, the problem was a bad TXV (expansion valve) on the indoor coil, not a refrigerant leak or a simple fix. That valve controls how refrigerant meters into the coil, and when it fails the coil can't do its job and ice builds up on the lines. The part isn't something we keep on the truck, so it's on order with a 5 to 7 business day lead time before we can get back out and finish the repair.
• Replaced a failed dual-run capacitor in Spartanburg, off Montgomery Drive, Spartanburg, SC. The outdoor unit for the master bedroom system wasn't cooling. Checked the electrical components and found the 40/5 dual-run capacitor had failed, which meant the compressor and fan motor weren't getting the jolt they needed to start up properly. Swapped in a new 40/5 capacitor and ran the system through a full cooling cycle to confirm everything was working right. It cycled on, held steady, and cooled as it should. Bedroom should be back to comfortable now.
• Replaced a failed dual run capacitor on a heat pump, off Arch Street, Spartanburg, SC. Found the outdoor unit's 45/5 dual run capacitor was weak and reading outside spec, which puts extra strain on the compressor and fan motor trying to get them started. Swapped in a new capacitor, then checked refrigerant pressures, tested amp draw on the compressor and fan motors, and inspected the rest of the electrical components. System came back to proper operating condition. While under the house, we also noted the flex ductwork, including the return runs, is sagging and showing moisture damage in several spots, which is worth addressing to keep airflow and efficiency where they should be.
• New Mitsubishi mini-split installed for a sun room, off Partridge Road, Spartanburg, SC. This sun room needed its own dedicated heating and cooling, so we installed a new 12,000 BTU Mitsubishi mini-split heat pump system to serve the space. The job included a new outdoor condensing unit paired with an indoor unit, run with fresh line set and wiring between the two. The setup gives the room independent temperature control without tying into the home's main ductwork, so it can be heated or cooled on its own schedule year-round.
• Corrected miswired thermostat on a heat pump system, off South Carolina Avenue, Spartanburg, SC. Customer called about the heat pump not working right. Found the thermostat wiring didn't match the system, which was throwing off operation. Corrected the wiring and tested the system. During testing, the thermostat wasn't sending the 24 volts needed to energize the reversing valve, which controls whether the system heats or cools. As a temporary fix to keep cooling working, the reversing valve was jumped directly to 24 volts. Once a new thermostat is chosen and installed, the low-voltage wiring at the outdoor unit will need to be corrected and the temporary jump removed to get the system back to normal factory operation.
